my employer says that she should keep original certificates and that we should have a copy. Is this true.

I'm not sure what certificates you are referring to. If you mean birth certificates or exam certificates your employer should see the original, take a copy, sign it if necessary to say it's a true copy and then return the original to you
Ditto the above, no employer has the right to retain certificates of merit, if that is what you are referring to. the reason for that is that you may need them at a future date, you should decide to change your employer.

They are yours.
Employer is entitled to view them.
Unless they are the framed certificates that you put up on your wall whilst at work of course, they would leave with you if you resigned though.
no it your property she has the copies.if you talking about public exams like gcse she only needs to endorse them with the exam bord.....i would feel very uncomfortable allowing someone to have these
