I don't know, but spelling might be.
Yes.
It was an arranged marriage TTT , the bride had never even seen the groom .
She had heard that he was illiterate and did not want to marry a man who would not be able to get a job that paid a living wage .The 'maths test' was her excuse to get out of the marriage.
Scary that most marriages in India are arranged by the parents without the bride and groom having a say and often not having even met before the ceremony !
I think that the lack of it proved to be a gift for this bridegroom.
Well, those two won't be multiplying.
It is important to life. If you can not think then all you do is push buttons and trust.

As for a life partner, you should know the level of your intended's intelligence way before it gets to any ceremony stage, and know whether they are in the range you can put up with. (Or wish to potentially inflict on your future offspring.)
This story just doesn't add up.

OK, that was the most obvious pun in the world. Four out of three people would have got it.
No good marrying someone that you can't count on
so she put off multiplication because his addition wasnt up to scratch
A divided couple already, they'll never be able to integrate until they get to the root of his problem. Could go on all night, pub quiz calls though you'll be glad to know.
no-one expects a boffin, but being a grown man and unable to add 15+6 is shocking.

it is strange how its acceptable for a bride to cancel the wedding right at the last second - when they are basically at the altar ... yet are seemingly unable to have a choice or opinion etc beforehand...

the whole arranged marriage thing is bad enough, but when the couple dont actually even meet until the ceremony...? its just messed up.
its also not clear why he could not do it = had he actually just never been taught how to do maths - or was he just thick?

i could handle someone who was bright but had never actually been taught to add ... but not someone who was just an idiot
being discalculaic, it would have thrown me as well!
Dyscalculaic? Whatever happened to innumerate?
Nothing happened to innumerate, both very different things! look it up!
OK dyscalculia

see Gerstmann syndrome -not that everyone who is dyscalculic has G syndr.
mostly occurs as part of a stroke
I have looked them up - they appear to be synonyms to me, an inability to understand numbers or do calculations.
I would have said that most counts of discalculia is more closely associated with dyslexia.

How many of you would be happy to marry someone you only met at the Altar? That is what this woman and thousands of other men and women are expected to do in India and other places in the world.
