Should I ask them?

It's almost 2 weeks since I had an interview.  I felt it went well, and they seemed impressed that I'd travelled 300 miles to see them (though no mention of my 70 train fare!).  Anyway, they said they'd let me know within the week, and here I am 2 weeks later with no news.

My question is, should I contact them?  I can only assume I've been unsuccessful, but either way I think my time and money deserves some sort of response!

I would definately contact them.  Admittedly, it does sound as though you have been unsuccessful but on the other hand, there is always the slight possibility that they have written to you offering you the job and the letter has gone astray in the post - it does happen!
Definitely give them a call.  You can always use some sort of excuse, like your voicemail has been acting up and you fear you haven't gotten all your messages, so you wanted to follow up with them.
I'm crossing my fingers for you. 300 miles, you must REALLY want that job.

Cheers for the answers.  I guess I'm just impatient - sure enough, the letter arrived this morning!  Now, anyone know any good job sites?

P.S. just joking, I know all the sites.
defo contact them - even if you havent got the job get some feedback from them on your strengths/weaknesses and interview technique etc.

I was told I needed to wait 2-3 weeks after my interview, waited 5 cos I knew they were busy, eventually called them and was offered the job!

cOOky, phone them - ask for feedback from the interview as you hadn't heard you assumed you hadn't got the job and would like to know where you can brush up your skills for the next interview!  Most companies do this.  I phoned for feedback as was told the interviews would be held on the  week I phoned and was told they had been delayed and yes, I did have an interview and got the job!  What will it cost you - just the price of a phone call! and you never know ....
