I am trying to find out how many army/RAF/navy reservists are employed in their full time job as Essex police constables. Essex police say they do not hold this information. Does the MOD keep records of employers. They have to compensate them for tours of duty.
Why would they keep records of employers? The MOD pay the reservists, so they wouldn't want to know if you were a policemen or a boilerman. The MOD don't pay the companies, they pay the individuals.
That's my point Boxy. OP is saying Essex police don't keep records of which of their staff are in the TA etc (not that the TA won't give lists of employers).
I think the cost of any leave they have to take as part of their TA duties is covered by the TA. It must therefore be either unpaid or TA reimburses the employer. There must be some mechanism for recording it somewhere in the system. I'm sure they dont just disappear for two weeks a year (or six months when they are on tour. I think I might try a freedom of information request with Essex Police and the MOD.
jonny, what I am saying is that the TA pays people if they are on TA duties, where I worked the employer just allowed them unpaid leave. The TA didn't reimburse the employer.
Prudie says they get paid leave, but they didn't, where I worked.
I can confirm my employer gives reservists a set amount of paid leave per year to attend 'camp' etc and then would allow special unpaid leave if required in addition. They are also paid by the TA.
I think it depends on employer boxy (you may know that mine is more sympathetic to such activities). It's not just reservists either, P/T fireman, councillors, scout officials etc all benefit. But we digress, this doesn't answer OP question and if he has such a desire to know then an FOI request to Essex Police may be his route.
I have reasons for wanting to know this. I know someone who wishes to do both and the police are not being very cooperative. I just wondered if there are xx number already doing it so that they cannot argue that it is not possible. It is not confidential. I just want numbers, not names.
