Got to do a 500 word essay, which probably on paper doesnt look much, and just got me thinking, is there a site or tool on computer that when a document is highlighted tells you how many words it has in it?

Yes - there is a word count icon on your Word programme, it's a little icon (top left on mine) with 1,2,3 on it. If you highlight what you've typed and click the icon, it'll tell you how many words you've typed.
In 'Works' if you click on tools a drop sown menu appears. One of the options is word count.
down, rather than sown ^^^
which word processing programme do you use, 4get? sandy's reminded me that it'll be different on some. You can always click your Help button and and put "word count" in the search box, too.
