I'm not sure why a highly qualified maths teacher would have been doing an OU degree since teachers have to have a degree and a PGCE.
Anyway, this may help your friend http:// |

you STILL have to pay high fees with OU and ordinary unis often offer payment schemes these days too!

i went to southampton university for my bachelors degree and am currently doing a masters at the ou. no difference in price or quality....but you have to motivate yourself at the ou and you can do the course at your own pace around a regular full time job, which pays for it. the materials and course matter/exams/essays are very good quality. got a first at southampton and currently getting a distinction at the ou....but then i am a clever sod x

You can 'afford' the fees.I know it is a ridiculous amount of money and I am against the rise in tuition fees, but you can afford them if you get the loans. You will not have to begin to pay them back until you are earning over 21K a year and then only 10% over that is paid off your loan.
