As some of you may know I had an accident in April in that I tipped a guy's bumper in front of me and naturally is going to blow up into a "compensation" claim for him.

Regrettably my insurance is up tomorrow and I called into brokers who gave me a price and told me premium was so and so

I have been with this broker some years and very happy with them but somehow tonight am thinking the assistant was too flippant with the premium which I thought was excessive - saying "oh it has gone up cos no-one will touch you because of the accident in April".

Shall I take her word for it because of the accident business and pay up or query it again. Again I pay for fully comp and so to lower my premium if it saves me money I may go "Third party etc".

Any opinions please and thank you.

I came away happy enough but have now thought it over and am thinking it is way too much an

Jenny, whichever broker/comparison website you use, you must be honest about your claim history, otherwise any future claim will be disallowed should you not mention it on the proposal.

Stick with fully Comprehensive cover, you won't save very much in the way of the cost of premiums by just choosing Third Party Fire & Theft.

Your current insurer is responsible for any claims made during this period of cover, even if you should move to another insurer.

Unless your current insurance broker is a tied agent they are obliged to find you the most suitable cover, therefore you should ask them to re-market your risk, the same as any new broker would do. Remember that you will need to hurry if your insurance is due tomorrow.

had a wee peep in before beddybyes - got a little emotional earlier in that I am sad that there is/are so much unscrupulous people out there waiting like vampires to pounce on the needy. Not me as such but the poor people out there who don't have a "voice" or anybody to vouch for them. Not to mention to the poor animals who don't have a voice for them too (for their rights bless them - my wee dogs etc) that's another story.

I am very lucky I do have loads of avenues to venture up and get a good/bad/indifferent quote whatever but I'll get there - it is not the end of the world but makes me sad re other people being taken advantaged off - why oh why do people want to hurt people so much.

Twix - whilst my insurance could be up blah blah tomorrow but something tells me I have quite some time to make my mind up whether I accept or not - so that will give me time to get other quotes.

Thanks Twix for your advice.

Also have been on the ball re friends as to they are with - so hopefully will get a good premium.

Will let you know of course what I will eventually plan to do - but whatever I do I do hope not to DOUBLE THE PREMIUM OF LAST YEAR - £35 REDUCED TO £70 A MONTH ACH DO THEY THEY' THINK THEY HOODWINKING

Question Author
^^^^^^sorrry £35 reduced to £70 should meant £35 UPPED £70 A MONTH - NO WAY HOSAY.

Think the company seen the little old lady coming and overwhelmed me with all the insurance jargan,. no no no not for no seree
I gave up using a broker for car insurance as soon as confused.com came to my attention many years back. I decided that basically took the rug out from under their business.

For sure, some insurance companies deny comparison sites to use their info but you can either check them separately or decide that's their loss as they're unlikely to be offering such a low price that it's worth your time checking.

I confess that 50% of the time I don't bother and pay the extra on the renewal, but a steep rise would incentivise me to find the time.
My car insurance went up by £100.00 when i had an accident which was my fault. I rang Aviva for a quote, they quoted £100.00 less, went back to my insurers and they gave me a quote better than Aviva.
I also recommend giving Aviva a ring. You might be surprised how competitive they are. Go direct to them, and miss out the broker.
JJ, I would ring your Insurance back & if that nasty person left her name I would report her, ( I do not like people like that ) It's the likes of your Premium that's paying her wage, ask to speak to someone in authority, regards bad people out there! I am one step ahead of these with a small knowledge how these people work, two cameras are fitted Front / Rear to my car for my own & my insurance protection, also my mobile phone / camera, I do not trust anyone meaning, OH It's ok, it's only a scratch, a scratch can mean a claim, a claim can start off a mole hill becoming a mountain, sorry for the sermon but I have been around a bit. x

OK - THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE (SOZ FOR CAPS) JUST UP
Conne, try SAGA website, they are very good imo.
Question Author
tried liverpool victoria - went through the shabam - (friend advised this) - anyway came to buffering around the quote

Sorry we cannot give you a quote ?????
have you tried the other websites that others have suggested ?

and if not, why not?
Question Author
well well well - finally got some online quotes

And also after being knocked by liverpool victoria who said "we cant give you a quote) they were online site

from £258 a year to

£1000 a year (Endsleigh)

Now my next move is how can I be sure that these online sites/offers are genuine etc. as I truly don't know what I am doing/

Hastings seem to be the cheapest (wherever they are) any more help please

ALSO - there were no spaces to tell about the accident only a little bit

like - when was it

was it settled - no

in my estimation how much did I think - I put £50. Was I wrong there - no other space to describe the accident etc.

no wee answer here - - - -
Both my wife and myself have had minor knocks in the last year, both went to Insurance Broker to sort out, and were dealt with on a 50/50 basis. The insurance has been renewed since, neither the premium or the (protected) NCB have been affected. with LV.
Question Author
i have already been told motley that premium will double. £35 a month to £70 amonth
But you don't have to accept that quote. Get various quotes from the comparison sites to sort out a better one.

I've not used an Insurance Broker for many years simply because they want to make a profit, possibly at your expense.

Customer loyalty counts for nothing nowadays.
Have you tried Aviva?
0800 015 4715

They are not on the comparison sites.
I have just read your original post, and with this one I'm guessing your mistake was to admit liability, now there is not a lot you can do to mitigate that unfortunately.
Question Author
The Motley - what did you mean I mitigated myself by admitting liability - saying "I tipped the bumper" - what was I supposed to say - when his solicitor has sent me a letter regarding a "collision".
So jj have you renewed your insurance yet, it runs out in about 3 hours doesn't it?
