I rang Sky Customer Services on Friday as there are is no channels on my TV. The advisor talked me through lots of different buttons to press to reset to try and fix but still not working

He said they'd have to send out an engineer and he gave me Wed or Thurs. I told him I work those days and asked for next week. He said they are fully booked that week, so I have to ring back to arrange another slot, as they can only schedule engineer visits within 2 week slots.

Has anyone had a problems with this and been advised of the above? Also, am I within my rights to ask for a reduction in my bill as I have no Sky channels?

Thanks

Do you have a standard Sky box or a Sky+ box ?

Not had any Sky TV problems up to now. Check all your connections to Sky Box and TV to make sure Aerial Cable and Scart Plugs etc are all well seated. Any loose connection can cause big problems. It everything is OK then the Engineer will have to check your Sky Box incase it has developed a fault.

Hi there,
It's a Sky+ HD box .

I've tried switching it on/off. checked all scart leads, wires etc but still not working,
The usual thing they suggest is
1) Turn off TV and SKy Box ,Un-plug both from the mains
2) Take out card and wipe it over with a clean dry cloth, replace card
3) Leave equipment off for 5 minutes ,plug back into the mains again
4) Switch equipment on and wait the Digital box needs to reset this takes a while .a picture of the list of channels shou;d appear
Sky work long hours every day 7 days a week ,you must insist that you speak to a manager ,try to be calm and speak in a decent manner,if that should fail suggest that you will cancel your subscription and go with Virgin or BT,
There must be someone who works for SKY who reads these pages .
If you still have aproblem let me know .
Good Luck

Hi In a Mo,

Just checked the Services section of my Sky box and it says there is No Signal. Rang Sky and they said they can get engineer out this Friday. he said it must've been a cancellation.

Weather has been fine here and Satellite dish has not been moved or tampered with..any suggestions?
Sky Boxes do develop faults, how old is your current Sky Digi Box ?
Has your window cleaner been recently?

If so, he bashed the dish with his ladder.
Is your Sky Box a Thomson?
Is it over 18 months old?
Hopkirk, it`s a Sky problem not Windows!
Good point Elvis.

Here is my windows cleaner

I had this last month the dish only went up a month or two before brand new, the guy came out to fix but I had to take day off work, then it turned out it was the dish that was the problem water had got inside the wiring because he had not pulled the rain proof cover down over the exposed wires, The dish has a in build cover you click down, he realised it was his fault when he installed (same guy) so he replace the dish.

We were annoyed anyway when we first booked the call out as it was costing us around £60 and the system was really new it turned out the warranty is like a month or two and it was just out of date... typical, we even threaten to cancel they went along with the cancellation, we went though to complaints then complaints manager and they didn't seem to care about the cost of the call out for new system in the end after like 45 mins they agreed to give half price rental for 3 months which was the cost of the call out and then we had to pay for call out on credit card.

It is always worth trying the get free or reduced rental, if broken, but I think there has been a clamp down since people say online they get away with free this and that just for phoning up to cancel etc, its not the case now.
ALL exterior F plug connections to Dish LNB's should be made with self-amalgamating tape.
The 'cover' system is crap .. and so are installers who just hope the covers will protect the connections from wet.
thanks for the heads up albags
We had problems a few months ago with green flashes and blurring, and the engineer found it was next door neighbours tree blocking the signal, and they cut it back and picture returned to normal.

It's a Sky+ HD box. I've only had it about 8 months.

No, window cleaner has not been.
if you say Sky engineer is coming this Friday & your Sky box is Sky + H/D I would suggest that you copy everything that is saved on the hard drive to a dvd recorder. The engineer may change your box & you will lose all recordings, it's happened to me twice.Ron.

Thanks Whiskeyron. When I spoke to Sky the other day, he asked me to press lots of different buttons etc which has wiped all of my recordings :-(
Have you checked all the wiring inside and out? When we mysteriously developed a similar fault, a full cable check showed that some bugger had taken a pen knife to the cable and clean cut it in half :(
