I have a '98 Vectra.  I'm not quite sure which light you mean.  It can't be an "engine omission" light, because omission means that the engine has been left out!  The most likely is the engine electronics light, which looks like an outline of an engine with a lightning symbol in the middle.  I quote from my manual:

"Lights up when ignition is switched on, and remains illuminated during starting.  Goes out shortly after engine starts to run.

"The duration of injection, ignition, idling and overrun cut-off are controlled electronically.

"If the indicator lights up during driving, a fault has occurred.  The electronic system switches to an emergency running programme so that driving may be continued.  Consult a Vauxhall Dealership to remedy the fault.

"Do not drive for a lengthy period with the control indicator illuminated, as this may increase fuel consumption and impair the vehicle's driveability.

"If the control indicator lights up briefly and then goes out again, this is of no significance."

If I'm talking about the wrong light, please ask again - but only if you haven't got a manual so that you can look it up for yourself.

I was told by dealer that it can most commonly be caused by low or high engine oil levels.
