If you're paid by the hour, you should have holidays by the hour. If you're in a union, take it up with them.
I know several people that work shifts and it sounds about right dependng on your break entitlement Basically, 4x 12 hour ***** is 48 hours minus your break entitlement of say 2 hours per day brings it down to 40 hours. For most 9 to 5 ers this is atcually nearer 6 days leave if they're on a 7 hour day. Depends on the exact hours your contrat says but I wouldn't be surprised to discover you're actually on the better end of the deal !
I've got a feeling I must have missed the f out of shift on my last answer !! ;)
