It ain't Answerbank out there in the real world for sure. These idiots would be happy to sit in the road all day debating the rights and wrongs of their unlawful actions whilst the rest of the population can go hang. They won't listen to reason and they care not one fig for others. They believe their cause is just and it is their right to inconvenience as many people...

Actually, it's not.

Because the protesters who are non-violent, may well escape sanction, but the motorists who moved them, and by law assaulted them, may well be fined for their actions.

I completely understand the frustration that drives people to violent response, but it is not the way to deal with these people, it simply adds the smell of burning martyr to their cause.
The woman had the right idea but the men hadn't a clue. The men just had to drag the activists off several times. A good kick in the nadgers would leave the rolling around on the pavement with no desire to go back for more.
As Mr Punch of Punch and Judy would say,"That's the way to do it"

I am surprised that you, as an ex-police officer, are condoning assault.

Surely when you were a serving officer, you would be required to arrest the motorists, rather than the protestors, since the former are omitting assaults on the latter?
I'll leave this thread here for now but don't be surprised if your news-related threads in Chatterbank get deleted in future, TTT.

Only their fellow protesters would consider them martyrs. For those being prevented from going about their daily business they’re just a pain in the backside so sympathy will be at a premium from them.

17:05, I don't mind if you move it to whatever section you think is most appropriate.
I believe the woman who dragged the activist by her hair was arrested
TTT, mods can’t move threads. It might have been better in Society & Culture.

They won't listen to reason and they care not one fig for others. They believe their cause is just and it is their right to inconvenience as many people as they can. Well stuff their rights. They have, in this country a right to peaceful protest but that does not mean obstructing the free passage of people who actually have a job to go to. How long should the lorry driver sit in front of these morons whilst traffic is backing up behind him. What if he had planned his route so that he could meet a schedule to embark on a cross channel ferry with perishable goods and missed his slot. People have schedules to meet, appointments to attend funerals or weddings to go to.
If it means taking the law into your own hands to discourage these publicity hungry selfish morons then I reckon they should go for it 'to discourage the others'. The law isn't exactly helpful when you see the same old faces being arrested three or four times a week and let out on police bail .
Buenchico can, apparently...

Once again you advocate breaking the law, when you spent your career upholding it - I am unsure how you have changed your attitude since your retirement - or did you always think this way?

Well I am full of surprises. Different times. Different Police today.
The police would immediately arrest the unwashed and ignorant for Obstructing the Highway Sec 121 Highways act to prevent any potential assault when I was a serving officer. If they are unwilling or reluctant to take action then they are best off making tea for these morons whilst ordinary folk do their job for them. We called it doing a Nelson and it worked
Jim, I think he was talking about whether to delete it or not. He decided not to for the time being.

What may or may not have happened in your day does not address my point.

In your posts, you have twice clearly sanctioned the use of force, specifically assault, in order to alter a situation.

That is against the law - it was when you were an officer, and it is now, so I repeat my question - how do you advocate illegal assaults against members of the public, when your career was based on upholding the law, whether you happened to think it was right, or not.
Retro, I’m interested in what your actions would be today if still employed ?
The trouble is that they’re causing more hatred towards themselves not the cause they’re fighting for.

I’m a patient and tolerant man. (I’m still on Ab for eg) But if I needed to be somewhere for someone else, I shudder to think what my actions would be.
I’m against violence but the price of insulation tape would rocket.
I agree ark, they have lost any support they may have had from the public .
A police officer may use reasonable force in order to effect an arrest when necessary. I don't intend to debate my former career with you because when you did the last time your posts were removed.
You obviously are too young to remember or conveniently forget that in the days of the CND marches with Tony Benn and Foot leading the vanguard it was the practise to drag them by the hair and drag them off the highway to the awaiting police vans. It worked on the day until it was repeated the next month.
You may like to spend your day behind the wheel of your car debating a point with these people but others lead a busy life in the real world.
