It ain't Answerbank out there in the real world for sure. These idiots would be happy to sit in the road all day debating the rights and wrongs of their unlawful actions whilst the rest of the population can go hang. They won't listen to reason and they care not one fig for others. They believe their cause is just and it is their right to inconvenience as many people...

I remember the riot police running away during the poll tax riots in London. Maybe the authorities are trying to prevent a repeat of that sort of protest
//Retro, I’m interested in what your actions would be today if still employed ?//
I would arrest them and if they resisted arrest I would use reasonable force as is necessary to effect that arrest.
In response to 17.21, whilst anyone bashing them is breaking the law, I believe the protesters themselves are breaking the law. In Retrocop’s day it’s likely that they’d all have been dealt with according to the law but times, it seems, have changed. It appears the law works only one way now. It takes the soft and easy option.
retrocop - // I don't intend to debate my former career with you because when you did the last time your posts were removed. //3

I'm not asking you to 'debate your former career' as you put it, I am asking you why you approve of assault against members of the public, by other members of the public, when it is against the law -
your previous career is only pertinent insofar as you were required to act on such actions as a police officer, and now as a retired police oficer, you are clearly condoning the breaking of the law. I simply want to know how you can spend your career upholding the law, and then clearly advocate the breaking of the law now.

// You obviously are too young to remember or conveniently forget that in the days of the CND marches with Tony Benn and Foot leading the vanguard it was the practise to drag them by the hair and drag them off the highway to the awaiting police vans. It worked on the day until it was repeated the next month. //

I am neither too young, nor have I forgotten.

The actions of the police then have nothing at all to do with my question, which is not aimed at the police in general, then or now, it is aimed at you as an individual former police officer, advocating breaking the law now.

// You may like to spend your day behind the wheel of your car debating a point with these people but others lead a busy life in the real world. //

That's a supposition, and a false one.

Perhaps, for the third time of asking, you could address my question.

Obstructing the highway is a crime, they should be arrested and dragged off. if the police do not arrest them surely that is aiding and abetting a crime, itself a crime, surely? Yes the video is from Germany but I imagine their laws are similar to our own in that regard.
//Once again you advocate breaking the law, when you spent your career upholding it - I am unsure how you have changed your attitude since your retirement - or did you always think this way?//

You have all the questions but you don't tell me how YOU would deal with it if you were the lorry driver with a schedule to keep and couldn't turn round because the queues of traffic behind. How long would you just sit there drumming your fingers?
Retrocop is entitled to his opinion even if he was once employed to uphold the law. Being human, I imagine there were times, even then, when he thought the law was wrong in the way it obliged him to respond. He, like the rest of us, is also entitled to be fed up with morons.
"lorry driver with a schedule to keep"

Or driver of an ambulance with a patient with a critical condition in the back who is almost certain to die if he doesn't get to hospital promptly?

Why are you turning the question around on me?

I am happy to answer your question - I would wait until hopefully the police arrived, and cleared the road, because I do not advocate breaking the law by assaulting other citizens.

Any chance of you addressing my question now please?

I am sure what you say is true, but i am sure you will also understand if I hold out for a proper response from retrocop himself.

I am curious to know why a former police officer is happy to condone, and possibly even encourage, breaking the law, which he spent his career upholding.
He’s Retrocop, not Robocop.
Could someone please drag "him" of ... bleedin nuisance.
'It’s generally accepted in British politics that if you want to get anything done, you need to win over "Middle England". Every titanic figure in our country’s recent history, the people that really shaped Britain in their image, were acutely aware of this political reality.

Thatcher, Blair and even Nigel Farage’s Brexit bandwagon managed to secure the backing of England’s lower-middle classes. All three understood that whatever your political objective, you had to convince ordinary people you had the right ideas.

Just Stop Oil have not done that. Rather than setting out to win over the Middle Englander, they’ve decided to ruin their day.'
naomi - // He’s Retrocop, not Robocop. //

I am aware of that - and I'm sure he is perfectly capable of answering for himself.

jimf: "Or driver of an ambulance with a patient with a critical condition in the back who is almost certain to die if he doesn't get to hospital promptly? " - That may actually be allowed under the principle of "quod est necessarium est licitum," - that which is necessary is legal.

The public has had enough and prepared to do what is required to shift these clown out of their self regard bubble.

What a pompous little chap you are!
As usual AH. You do not consider the victims of this crime. And you do not seem to care about the potential consequences of their actions.
I recall very recently you telling us that Capital punishment is not the way in our civilised society for a murderer who had committed an abhorrent act on a female victim and killed her. When I put it to you what you would want done with the perpetrator if it was your daughter you immediately U turned and wanted your justice by hanging.
I gave a link on another JSO thread last week where a man phoned LBC to say that he watched his mother die in his car after a stroke. He was desperately trying to get her to hospital as I believe there was an ambulance strike. He was held up on the motorway by JSO supporters for a few hours. When he finely got his deceased mother to hospital after he had watched her die he was told by the casualty doctor if only he had got her ninety minutes earlier they may have saved her.
What if you were driving that car with your wife or daughter in a critical coma and they died in front of you because you were held up by the JSO mob. Would you feel so benevolent towards them? They deserve everything they get by fair means or foul.

It's only a matter of time before someone loses it and runs them over and I care only about the poor sod that gets prosecuted.
