Do i have to use my own or can i use a different name for the author? I have a manuscript, but i do not want to publish under my own name. thanks

Use any name you wish!
You can use any name.
You can choose yourself a pen name.
You don't have to use your real name as the author of the book, but, obviously, for tax purposes, i would think that your real name would have to be listed somewhere on record.
You can use a pen name. It's been done many times. Here's a list of some authors who have done it:

Thanks everyone, that's great news. I can get this manuscript proofread and have it published. Its a true story, with a bit of fiction in it, so people don't recognize who its about.
