How does amazon and wikipedia down load thousands of books and information - is it all scanned onto the internet - puzzling me - thanks

Amazon and wikipedia are based on very large server arrays, based throughout the "cloud", the actual download will be driven by a mirror-site near the requesting computer, i.e you, and is just stored as eBook files on these computers.
