no hot water

Recently our overflow pipe outside started leaking, my partner turned off the stopcock and this stopped the problem but now he has turned it back on but no hot water is coming out of any of our taps. Can anyone help? I have two kids and am desperate for hot water.

We had a plumber out before with the problem with the overflow and he changed something in our tank a new ball or something? That was only a couple of months ago so I can't understand the problem now.

Please help!
