OK, the answers I wanted are:

1. Roger Hargreaves
2. The Mikado
3. Great White Shark
4. Tom Jones
5. West Yorkshire

I can't allow the German singer as the answer because
a) it's not the answer I have
b) there may have been an even more recent version somewhere remote like Papua New Guinea - I have to draw the line somewhere
c) I've never heard of it.

I'm feeling generous - more cake all round
Yorkshire was never one county for administrative purposes. Before 1974 it was divided into the North, East and West Ridings.
