Chamois leather

What is the best way to get a chammy leather soft,ive tried several things but it always dries hard.

Simply rinse it, wring it out, and put it in one of those resealable plastic bags for next time!

And on an entirely different level, simply wash it in liquid dish soap and rinse thoroughly...

Drying a car after washing

Anybody have a preference on drying methods and their effectiveness? i.e. driving along the autobahn at 125 mph, genuine chamois leather, synthetic leather, microfibre cloth, etc....

Is the answer to 17a) City in England - Manchester? 'cause it doesn't fit with what I thought is the answer to 8d) fine tanned goat skin - chamois leather. Would also help if I could figure out 13a)...
