I would try putting some fruit out in your living room or hall-way that should attract them out of the kitchen.
The only thing to do is to either put the fruit into an enclosed space where the flies can't get to them, they might need rinsing to get rid of any eggs or put them outside! They are such a nuisance.
Times flies like an arrow.............
Fruit flies like a banana. :o)
Put a bucket of manure in the lounge!
Buy an electric light zapper like they have in butcher shops and anywhere food is sold
My mum used to put a bowl of vinegar in the kitchen....she said it worked.....try it and see!!
They usually flock round fruit - or veg - which might be getting old. Have you got a mouldy orange tucked away somewhere that you've missed?

Put some spiders in there?
Keep your fruit in the fridge. Keep all other food covered or out of the room while you ..... Spray area quickly with fly spray .. I know, its poisonous but it works. Leave the room and shut the door. Pick them up five minutes later and open the window slightly for some fresh air ... good luck !
