This US website suggests 7 months but that includes one month for 'permissions', so the actual construction time would be 6 months:

This UK site seems to agree. Quote: "A simple house on a flat site with a good crew, an accurate budget and reasonable weather, can be completed within 6 months. As you add in complexities such as a steep site or bad weather then timescales lengthen"

Modern houses with wooden frame and cardboard walls, about two weeks. But they will still cost the same as a proper house. IE. bricks and mortar.
A small site was developed opposite our house. The demolition crew moved in on 9th September 2011. A disused petrol station, two semi-detached houses and a small factory were cleared, including the removal of 5 petrol tanks. The developer erected 12 four bedroom detached houses with separate garages. Two of the houses have two garages. They were all completed, sold, and occupied by January 2013. Obviously the planning permission was obtained beforehand.
I seem to remember the old Ideal Home exhibitions at Olympia. Often a house was built within the exhibition hall, in about three weeks. It was a real house, fully decorated and furnished, and visitors could go in, round and upstairs. Maybe huge numbers of brickies worked on these houses. Maybe shortcuts were made, but they certainly looked habitable. Like I said, it seemed to be three weeks; walls and roof but (?) maybe not foundations.
