Who says the SNP are anti English :-)
Someone had to stand up for the majority of the English against this rather shabby attempt effectively to reintroduce fox hunting in England
Cameron gambled that they would not vote against something which is legal in Scotland, but I could not see the logic behind that assumption

Danny...its not quite a clear cut as that. See this quote from the BBC link : "Mr Robertson (Leader of the SNP group in Westminster) said: "We totally oppose fox hunting, and when there are moves in the Scottish Parliament to review whether the existing Scottish ban is strong enough, it is in the Scottish interest to maintain the existing ban in England and...

The SNP are anti-English. They're just not anti-fox.

It's coz they are wee ginger dugs.
SNP are total hypocrites in voting against something that they sanction in Scotland.
Hunting aside, it's shabby dealings from the SNP. Sturgeon was tying herself in knots, this morning, to try and justify it.
Couldn't really give a tinker's cuss one way or the other about fox hunting, but people who gleefully dismiss what the SNP are doing because they don't want to see a fox killed, should be more concerned about the bigger picture.

The SNP will sway a vote that does not affect the Scottish people one jot.

This is fundamentally wrong and the sooner we have only English and Welsh MPs voting on matters affecting the English and Welsh the better.
Svejk

What was her justification?

It always amuses me to see MPs trying to justify something that can't be justified (see the well known racist Diane Abbott 'defending the indefensible').
Danny...its not quite a clear cut as that. See this quote from the BBC link :

"Mr Robertson (Leader of the SNP group in Westminster) said: "We totally oppose fox hunting, and when there are moves in the Scottish Parliament to review whether the existing Scottish ban is strong enough, it is in the Scottish interest to maintain the existing ban in England and Wales for Holyrood to consider"

So, as the SNP has a majority in Holyrood, we could see a change in the law north of the Border as well.

But what is important is that fox hunting should remain illegal in England and Wales, by, to be frank, any means available. As soon as the Tories won the Election in May, this attempt to reintroduce this cruel sport was a possibility, which would have been like turning the clock back to more barbaric days.
MIkey, I was not trying to justify fox hunting, just making a comment about the hypocrisy of the SNP under Sturgeon.
As, I'm sure you can imagine, DD, she didn't have one. Just bull and bluster. (just like the abbototamus)
Danny....I know you are not !

From the many previous debates on fox hunting, on AB, this "sport" has few supporters here, if any. Its my contention that if the Tories managed to repeal the current law, the door would then be open for the supporters of other cruel blood sports, like hare coursing, to start banging their drums as well.

I can live with a bit of Highland Hypocrisy, if it means that this attempt to bring back fox hunting will fail. Actually, its more pragmatism than hypocrisy as far as I am concerned. Anyway, in previous Parliaments, its Scottish Labour MPs that we would be talking about, not the SNP.

It would be a black day for animal cruelty if we weren't willing to allow a political party to change its mind.

I think Mr Cameron deserves this: it was a really underhand attempt effectively to re-introduce fox hunting with dogs in England and Wales. If he wanted to be upfront about it he should have brought in a Bill for that purpose. As it is, this piece of proposed legislation really stinks for its dishonesty and sneakiness.
I don't think the SNP do sanction fox hunting in Scotland do they? They want to bring the legislation there in line with the rest of Great Britain.
Quite correct ichkeria. But the real nub of this is that dave has a problem with his own backbenchers here. He only has a small majority in the House and he can't rely on his own Party to vote with him.

The Tories need to learn a lesson here. The British people are mostly against fox hunting, as can be seen by this YouGov Poll ::

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2015/07/09/fox-hunt-region/

Just why is he wasting Parliamentary time in this nonsense ?
Question Author
The answer to my question mikey is of course that as you say fox hunting is very unpopular in this country. Cameron knows that he would be unlikely to win a vote in Parliament on it and now, thanks to the SNP, he almost certainly won't win this one either.
At least not a lot of time will be wasted teasing this rotten piece of deception out of its lair to be savaged by SNP, Labour and indeed many Tory MPs also.
Can you book a foxhunting break in Scotland? Perhaps they are trying to preserve their tourist industry ...
"SNP are total hypocrites in voting against something that they sanction in Scotland."

The Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act was passed by the devolved Scottish parliament in February 2002, making Scotland the first part of the United Kingdom to ban traditional fox hunting and hare coursing

Well foxes know no national boundaries so these might end up as Scottish foxes and thus be a Scottish interest.
Thank you Steg for your post. The majority on here are either too ignorant or too set in their ways to find out the facts before spouting off - and people like wolf are just plain offensive. Scotland ALREADY HAS A BAN ON FOX HUNTING!! Is that clear enough??
