Hi All,

Heard an interesting and heated debate yesterday on Jeremy Vine ( I know some of you dislike him but please refrain from commenting :-)) about artificial grass.

There was a very knowledgeable chap from a supplier of artificial grass who said the technology has moved on from the astro turf of old and that drainage was now not such a problem.

He said many of his customers had dogs in the garden that had ruined lawns etc or children doing similar and that the ease of up keep was also appealing. Other customers included people in flats with balconies and the like who didn't have access to a "proper" garden.

What are your thoughts?

Oooo Yes. Good idea. That'll look lovely.
When I do my garden I plan to have borders and hanging baskets. All suitable for Bees (although I'm allergic) Butterflies and worms :-)
Auntie, my kids want my horses thrown out in favour of a gudhwara temple.....and I thought they would develop after I die :(

wow only stepped away for a cup of tea, didn't expect such a lovely wealth of answers, thank you :-).

I am undecided. I can see the value for small gardens that want a bit of grass, instead of decking or concrete, but not the hassle of a lawn mower but then again there is something lovely about a rolling green verdant.

I wonder.....you know those guests you have who nip into the garden for a ciggie....if the grass looked too real and they dropped the ciggie...would the grass have burn holes...or even worse...burst into flames?

With my track record I need to cover all possibilities.....☺
Just got Taj Mahal ornament off ebay. Will install it in field....that'l

Bottom question.
Thank you, Frank....I was a little tongue in cheek but then remembered that a few years ago I had put my pool to bed for the winter....next door had a big flamey bonfire and dozens of embers floated onto my pool cover.

He was super about it...apologised with flowers and chocs...but it cost him £500....

I guess the same could happen with this.....or one of those awful Chinese Lanterns....

Think I'll stick to grass......x
We have real grass but the garden is a fair size. When we downsize I don't think I'll bother with a lawn at all. A Courtyard garden would be rather nice.. something like this would suit me

gness even ^^^^
Hi, Baldric....will do if it's a new one.....have signed before...and against balloon releases that kill animals....

And if nothing else...they are both litter... even if they are supposedly bio degradable .....x
I'd never really thought about it before Gness, just assumed they would be flame proof, so tongue in cheek or not, at least I've learnt something. :-)
I was talking to some professional gardeners only recently about artificial grass and they were saying how good it is now, but very expensive.
That's lovely mazie, as much as I love my big garden a small one's starting to look very attractive to me now. I could pay attention to detail instead of having help and being upset about not being able to keep up.
That's exactly how I feel about our garden Robinia.. It's getting too much now.
I've just lifted the corner of my grass to see if there was some sort of label saying what it was. (for ummmm) No label but plenty of wildlife including a toad.
Me too, Frank......I'll keep the mower I think....and buy some more black paint for the decking!
i wouldn't be surprised if some entrepreneur didn't bring out a bladeless lawnmower for those people choosing artificial grass

Mine has removable blades. Aelmpvw, so would be perfect for the job! lol!
