Paint removal from plastered wall

Can anyone tell me how to remove paint from a plastered wall without damaging the plaster. A scraper won't touch it and I presume a hot air gun is inadvisable. I don't want to use something like Nitromors &, in any case, it would cost a fortune as it is a very large area. Any advice would be great. Thanks

A sander. Horrible job though.
Plain old water should remove emulsion

Thanks for replies.

There was wallpaper on top of the paint which was removed using water and the paint is still there so, presumably, it is not emulsion. Will try anyway.

Plaster is quite porous, it is very likely that the paint has sunk into the plaster.

Why do you want to remove the paint? you'd probably be better just painting over it or using lining paper first.

Try a wallpaper steamer, might work.
