My neighbour has recently planted quite a lot of Leylandii in her garden and I am concerned that this will eventually block out the natural light in my house - both upstairs and down. Also it does not look attractive either.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do? Another neighbour approached her to ask if it would be possible to keep the trees pruned down, but this was met with hostility. We live in a Conservation Area (Scotland).

Get hold of the council ! The planting of Leylandii in most areas of Scotland is prohibited by bye-law for exactly the reasons you state. It is certainly here in Aberdeenshire.

Failing that be ready with a chain saw! Or to be more subtle drill a hole in the base and fill with amonia.
