Sitting out late last night I heard something buzz past me and land with a click on the patio table. Looked like a small cockroach.... is this likely here ?

you don't live close to thumper do you you with their big mossies?

I think it's the sudden surge of heat which has caused a plethora of beasties to emerge.
Take your pick Iggle...you might wish you hadn't asked :)

Thanks Robinia, looks like it might have been a large domestic beetle after all. Closest would be the 'oriental cockroach' but it says it walks, not flies.

Yes alba and one of those nasty beasties has taken a huge chunk out of my leg - pity I didn't see it and give it a swipe!
unlikely it was a cockroach, i suspect that was a beetle, if it was a cockroach it doesn't usually make any noise, i know because courtesy of the neighbours we were infested with them, they are filthy things, and very hard to get rid of.
yes you can get small cockroaches in UK, believe me I have seen many in the kitchens of hotels! and some do fly!
Cockroaches live in walls and pipes and wherever they can. We have them here in Spain and they are part of life., no matter how clean you are, they come in from outside or wherever. Even been known to be inside a brand new washing machine (mine) when we unpacked it! Had a large one last night on my cooker hob, but that's the first this year, hate them so much.

I hope you meant the cockroaches and not your neighbours Em LOL ;)
Just looked at that list and we get everyone of those horrid ones.
who said you can't get cockroaches here, i can assure whoever we were damn well inundated with the wretched things. they can get in any weeny space you can think of and then some. I had the pest control people in over a long period of time, eventually they used something that got rid of them, or at least seems to have...
ann, and the damn neighbours, they were the ones who caused the problem, i do know it was them because the pest control people said, before anyone says.

I've seen them in Spain, Italy, Maine and Florida but never here !! This little thing looked like a domestic beetle but was roughly an inch long so a BIG domestic beetle !!
The chefs used to throw the little ones onto the grill before breaskfast, shall I name the hotel???
so, not a family friendly hotel then Neti?

(sorry, will get me coat)
cockroaches do sort of hop, fly, disgusting things, ugh.. if i had them again, i would move..
Perhaps a cicada on his hols??
would have a weeny suitcase...
Might be a July bug .I had one fly down and out of the chimney last night !
They click ,they've got a hard shell .
May, June or July bugs, we have them all, yep big things that whizz around, especially washing on the line.

Cicadas usually have bend legs so you can tell the difference, and boy can you hear them en masse.
Google cockchafers and see what you think...big flying beetles at dusk.
