For some reason I have no hot water coming out of the kitchen tap or shower/bath today. I have standard gas central heating. the boiler doesn't fire up when I turn the tap on. I have phoned my landlord but is there anything I can try in the meantime? Thanks

Silly question maybe but is the central heating working?
Question Author
Yes!
Is the pressure of the water strong enough for the boiler to kick in?
If you have a pilot light, maybe it has gone out. If all else fails, read the instruction book
atalanta; that's why I asked if the central heating was working. As it is, the pilot light hasn't gone out.
When things don't work in this house I usually turn the things off and set them off again and sometimes that works.
If you have heating but no HW, then I guess it's the diverter valve (points the water to CH or HW ...... HW when you open a tap).
Could be one or two other things. Landlord must get a boiler guy in Scarlett.

You could tap the valve, or operate it manually... if you knew where it was in the boiler. No help though I'm afraid.

Long shot .......... switch the boiler to "HW only" and try again.

Thanks all- got a plumber in today and he said there is a bit in the boiler which is broken- the bit which makes the pressure from the tap being turned on kick the boiler into action. If you turn the taps on full it comes on okay. But if you turn them on normally you only get cold.
Sounds like a flow sensor, the plumber should manage that
