Strimmer fuel line replacement McCulloch Titan MAC 60-14 help

I have replaced the two pipes which had split with age. The primer pump will not draw petrol into the carb. Should the replacement pipes be exactly sized. The fuel filter seams OK I can hear air blowing thru when I blow into it. Any suggestions will be welcome. This is an old strimmer but was working fine last year. Thanks in advance
