Cleaning Decking and Pergola

I need to stain my pergola which has decking and fencing around. Lichen has grown on it during the wet winter and the fact it is under two large trees. I have tried scrubbing with a weak bleach solution but it is still there.
I looked at some decking restorer, but that says it cannot be put on lichen, that you have to get rid of it first!
Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Biological washing powder and a scrubbing brush is pretty effective.

I'll try that. Thanks!
Strong bleach almost neat and a deck scrubber (short bristled scrubbing brush on long handle)
A Jetwasher
Get a man in and enjoy the view...hot day...shorts....maybe topless..

I used the deckbrush with the bleach, so I will try the biological and then a stronger bleach as there are only a few weeds around it.
Apparently you are not supposed to jetwash decking, can't remember why.
Good idea Rowanwitch, but the usual young man we usually get in is busy all month!
Thanks guys & gals!
