Lawn mower selection advice

Good morning
My old Briggs and Stratton mower is getting rather tired, I've had it serviced but the engine doesn't want to run as fast as it used to so is struggling to pick up the clippings. I have about 180m of lawn to cut, see picture

and was thinking of purchasing this one

I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this mower, ie Will it last? Will it be man enough for that size lawn? Will the rear roller give nice stripes? And is that a good price? If not what would you suggest?

I would think that the McCulloch Lawn Mower advertised would be ideal, it's a reputable brand. Go for it.

About the only thing that ever wears out on a lawn mower of any kind is the engine. Sounds loke you've had good service out of your previous Briggs equipped mower so why not stay with a known product. We've got several Briggs & Stratton (also humorously known here in the U.S. as Briggs and Scrap Iron) powered machines and get good service out of them. The engine has gotten even more dependable within the last few years, in my opinion... probably due to closer tolerances in the manufacturing process as well as better lubrication processes...

That was why I liked the look of the McCulloch because of the Briggs engine.

This is the one we bought our son. It works ok.
However when we got it from Homebase online it would not run. A local firm sorted it for £20.It was oil on the carb diaphragm due to storage position. Very common they said. Got compensation from Argos/Homebase and it is doing its job.
The repaires called iot a "2 season" Chinese engine and suggestted spending a bit more to get something longer lasting.

Personally I spent a bit more and bought a Hayter Harrier electric from John Lewis donkeys years ago and it just goes on. Every season . No Probs.

Cheap is bad. Buy well for long term eficiency.

I agree with you about the Honda engines, I used to use Honda powered cement mixers at work and they seemed to go on forever.
I still can't decide, so I think I'll probably stick with the old one until it finally dies or I've a bit more cash to spend. I must admit I'd really like an Atco Balmoral but they are very expensive, decisions decisions.

I agree, as the company I used to work for used Honda mowers as they could happily cope with mowing 20 gardens a day x 10 months of the year without any major problems at all even after 5 years. Easy to use, not too heavy (I'm a lass) and gave an all round great cut despite being thrown about on and off a truck many times.
