What's the best age / mileage to sell a car at? Before loads of things start going wrong with it, e.g. clutch, brakes, etc.

12.....

anything that gets to its teens will moan and groan till you pay it attention, or give it a slap !

no one wants to slap their car, so sell it just before its 13th birthday... :-)

You want to get the best available price for the vehicle, without having to spend too much cash. Pitch a point therefore that you have not had to replace consumables like tyres, battery, exhaust and so on. Sell at a time before the first MOT or sell with a new first MOT.

In my experience this point at an average of 12K per annum is around the three year old stage.

Therefore get to 3 yrs old have it MOT'd and valeted (well worth it) and set a price just above what you would realistically accept based on damage etc. Don't give it away as research shows most punters will never view a car without the readies available. They may not buy it but they could.

The best time to sell a car is just before the manufacturers guarantee runs out, usually just before three years old!

Thanks for the tips. I bought my car when it was 3.5 years old and have had it for 2 years now. It's a gem, nothing has gone wrong with it. I've changed the cam belt but have not had to do anything else at all. I'm just not keen on the expensive things like a new clutch.
