I don't want to get it so clean that I might be tempted to eat my dinner of it, but just a bit cleaner than it is. Have used bleach without the desired effect. Would Brillo pads do the trick?

New loo, sandy
Yes I think so. My friend uses a scouring pad. Harpic would be easier though - weekly!
oh sandy did you have diamaria - time for a new loo - I would never attempt it - as you can eat your dinner of mine - I clean mine everytime I go to loo - maybe a bit of ocd regarding this -
brillo will scratch the enamel,,,,,,,,persevere with the bleach daily.
The suggestions here might help:

You could also try Harpic 100% Limescale Remover. It's cheap enough!

Can't afford a new loo. I'll try the Harpic, or else take the bulb out of the bathroom and put up really heavy curtains .
is it limescale tho or the other
Bleach just bleaches stuff. It doesn't get rid of any scaling (hard water area?) which Harpic will do.
Did you use Domestos?
Sandy....when we were having bother with my mum and her cleaning we used Harpic in a black bottle...best I can tell you....and it was a sheer fluke...must have been on offer. Because she refused to flush the loo it stayed in the bowl for a good while and worked really well.

Harpic's limescale remover looks like it would work, and cheap too.
that's a bit drastic sandy, I hope your aim is good LOL
you could use the hard side of those scouring pads along with CIF cream - I personally throw every thing in - you know what - why don;t you try ordinary washing powder with the scourer - they wouldnt scratch so much
Sandy, a bottle of coke will do it so I'm told.
Chuck a bottle of lime scale remover in the pan before you got to bed.

If you have more than one loo use vinegar but leave it for longer for a more environmentally friendly approach.
So if you leave Harpic on overnight would it work without having to scrub?
another tip is put the bleach and other cleaning products into your cistern.
limescale remover is by far the best when left overnight.

But quicker and easier than that is one of them green scourers.
Old rubber gloves and a firm hand wipe along the bottom around the bowl and hey, cleaned in a flash.
pushkin - that was my post - you obviously didn't see it

Thank you all. Food for thought there. I'll report back on which of the various suggestions work.
