Ive looked everywhere for it but supermarkets in the UK dont sell this american cheese sauce you dip nachos in...or am I looking in the wrong place? :I
After returning from visiting my brother in the States I got a hankering for nachos and cheese sauce, as sold in so many bars over there. The nearest I could find was Heinz 'Toast Toppers', but it took a lot of searching even to find the small and expensive jars of it - they seem to have been dropped by most supermarkets.
So I looked up a recipe and found this one. For the cheese, just use Kraft Cheese Slices.
Hate to offer this as the base is not exactly quality - get a bottle of American squeezy cheese. Warm it and stir in some chilli, diced skinned and de-seeded tomatoes and season to taste.
Hi F - the squeezy cheese stuff is in the condiment aisle - by the relishes etc. Or if you have friend with a cash & carry card for Makro, you can get larger 'bottles' in there aimed at the mobile caterer.
Brown & drain - one pound of hamburger (minced beef) and one pound of bulk sausage.
Put it in a slow cooker on low heat.
Cut the Velveeta into large chunks (unwaxed, unminted dental floss works great to slice cheese) and toss it in the slow cooker.
Add 2 cans of Ro-tel tomatoes (tomatoes with green chilis).
Use tortilla chips to dip with.
When this is melted it is way better than it sounds like it will be.
Doritos do a cheese sauce for nachos. We only have a small sainburys in my town, and they do it, plus a nice salsa one. Its with the crisps in my store.
