there was a lovely but very tall sycamore at the bottom of the garden. however it seems to have died somewhat abruptly and I wonder if anything else will be affected in the garden, and also what could have killed it. We have lots of shrubs which are rather lovely through out the year and i would ahet to see anything happen to them. I always thought Sycamores were very hardy

Nb...I have no answer but two friends with lovely established trees lost them this year, suddenly and with no explanation, but if it helps nothing else in their gardens suffered at all. We thought the bad winters may have proved too much, unlikely though that seems.
Anyone built anything near you? We lost our willow when a large garage was built close to our boundary - the concrete took the moisture from the soil.
Hardy because they are weeds. Depends where they are as to whether they are nice or what.
I have just lost an amelanchier - I discovered a fungal growth round the base of the trunk at ground level. I suggest you have a look and see if you can find any signs of fungus.
Did you notice any symptoms or anything unusual ?
