Hydrangea

I am sure I read somewhere that they should be pruned no later than 31 August but mine still has buds on
Can I leave it until the end of this month?

Unless you need to make it smaller, do it in the spring. The old growth protects the spring buds from frost
I always do mine in the spring. Just as the new shoots are showing, I trim off the old ones

Yep...end of March for me...the dead flower heads give frost protection to the buds underneath and they can look nice as part of the winter garden.
