Carrots!

Hi, I'm new to this growing your own mallarky and have been very successful so far with potatoes, tomatoes, sweetcorn, garlic, beetroot, cabbage, lettuce and runner beans.
My question is-with my carrots, which are getting somewhat over grown above ground, is it possible to cut the foliage down to say2-3 inches and continue from there, or will this kill them off?

Its the foliage producing the roots thin out and have the baby carrots/thinnings with lunch

They're crowded above ground, i.e the foliage. Will it damage the carrots then if I cut the foliage off? The thing is I'm running out of room as the foliage is spreading over other produce and shading it.

If you grow them next year try using largish pots filled with sandy loam (I use John Innes no 3 mixed with one third of kiln dried sand, from the garden centre).
Sprinkle seeds thinly & just cover with a little of the mixture.
You can easily thin them out as they're so easy to see in a pot & the roots have lots of deep growing room.
