30 year old potterton diplomat with sangamo clock which when change of time needed has to be unscrewed to alter. Is it reasonably straightforward to change to modern programmable timer.

i'm not sure about your programmer to be honest, most common types use a std wiring backplate across their range so you just remove the front and fit the new one. your best off getting a heating engineer to do it for you as the old style y,w or s plan systems have usually have a lot of wires and its very easy to get into a mess.
a typical modern programmer is about 75 quid and we charge about 50 to fit it.
