Morning all. Im seriously thinking of having our suite recovered as the frame is fantastic (and it did originally cost a small fortune). My question is, whats the going rate for it doing. I know that it depends on the fabric but iv heard that it's not worth it because it costs just as much as if you went out and bought a new suite. Any thoughts on this

Sorry, spelt that wrong, i meant Upholstered
I thought you were just typing in a posh accent.

I think you may be right about this as it would be a 'one -off' job requiring detailed measurements and there are not the economies of scale that manufacturers of new suites can achieve. There's no harm in getting a quote though.

Factor 30, I do try to be posh sometimes but it just does not work.
You're not Rosie Webster are you?
Would loose covers give it a new look?
Question Author
Sorry factor30, no im not rosie webster. I dont fancy seat covers, i need it looking good but seat covers tend to move.
Agree with you about the seat covers.
Many years ago, mother fancied a new look so bought some. They were fiddly to put on (probably due to the weird shape of the suite) lasted about 1 month and a new suite appeared.
How are the cushions in the suite? Are they still firm, they might need to be re-stuffed too.
Question Author
The cusions on the suite are A1. I had this suite for about 10 years, i then gave it to my parents and they had it a couple of years. It then came back to it's original home(mine). It's now sat in a spare room. The suite i have now is leather, it's around 6 yrs old but looks 60. Horrible, cold in winter, hot in summer. I keep looking at my old suite, sitting in it and thinking "i so miss you". The cushions are still the same shape as it was new. It's 100% better than the leather one iv got. It's just that i dont want it to cost thousands to recover it.
I suggest you get three quotes from different companies - it's not going to be cheap - but why don't you think about doing it yourself? All it needs is fabric, and a good industrial stapler. I've done it in the past.
One of my friends had her suite professionally recovered last year and it cost her £800
If the suite is as god as you say regarding the frame, then it is probably worth getting it re-upholstered, but like others have said it will not be cheap.
"god"! Of course I meant "good"!!

Oooooh Boxtops, mr rosie is a fantastic DIY'er but even he would'nt tackle that. £800 pounds is quite exciting. Thanks to everyone who replied, i really appreciate it
Just one thing re the £800 quote. Look at the quality of the fabric. Not sure how they rate fabric but good quaity is quite thick. And, I would consider getting a new suite. Wait for the next John Lewis sale. New Year? Its not long to wait.

We had ours fitted with loose covers and tbh its not that great.
i would say you are looking at 1500-2000k. we had a quote for ours a while ago and we decided in the end to buy a new one which came to more or less the same. you obviously need to have some good hard wearing nice material so thats what bumps it up. we got 3 quotes and all were pretty similar. I thought about having a leather suite but can never get my head around the cold and hot experience, all you want is something comfy and long lasting.

nextqueen, although leather suites are nice, mine is one of those big soft comfy leather ones (well it was when i bought it), it cost a small fortune, one of my cats over the years decided that she likes to get her claws into it so it now has clicks all over the place. It really is cold in winter and then in the summer you stick to it. Up to £2000 is a lot of money really so i will get some quotes and then decide
