Dear All,

A question for those of you who have been supernaturally engaged and those who have read too many ghost stories.

Firstly, I'd like to know some universal truths about ghosts:

What don't they like? I.e. What scares a ghost?
A poltergeist can touch and move physical things, can it also be touched?

Secondly I'd like anyone to share ghostly experiences with me with as much "physical" description as possible please!

Strange questions and requests from me I know, but it is a Friday.

All the best,

Spare Ed

grasscarp, my mum gets scared now when retelling the tale.
The girls all thought it a wind up so i suppose that why they kept hounding the "spirit"

she braved a Ouija once more when she met my dad. They were both messing about and found a "spirit" but neither knew what to ask it. My nan was there and she said ask it the name of my teacher from when i was at such and such a school. The spirit gave the correct answer.

I swear i saw an arm of someone at an investigation last week, i suppose i can say as we had switched cameras off and were packing up.

stupid thing is, even though i knew that my colleague and i were alone and locked into the building, and she was directly in front of me, I asked her calm as anything who was in the room in front of us lol.
Now I have seen who you are Redcrx, I just wanted to say I am a big fan of yours. Watched so many programmes - fascinating and very scary when people are taken really ill at times. I saw a ghost when I was about twenty years old, so am a believer!

Hi Umm, I am doing this: http://www.theanswerb...e/Question944376.html - and I am considering themes at the moment.

Okay, movement of objects is pretty common. Again I ask, was it felt this was a ritual this "ghost" was "locked into" Hippy?

Red, good collection there. These "ghosts" - any idea how they interacted with the real world?

My feeling now is the house was replaying something like a kind of movie without ictures...it wasn't scary but just something I felt matter of fact about
I didn't feel any sense that grandma was trapped just like it was an echo of her
Had lots of other creepy experiences...and have experienced 'cold' spots in houses where odd activity was reported...also when I worked in an ITu there was a time when a patient died 'badly as he really fought to stay with us' really didn't want to go and none of us would work in that bedspace for ages. it just had an awful feeling even felt by those who hadn't worked there the night he died.. luckily the layout and the fact not all our beds were open meant we could work around it...eventually I asked the spirit to leave despite my colleagues thinking I was potty, and re cleaned the area and it seemed to settle down
Don't think so Ed.. just things would go missing (esp car keys) seconds after putting them in their place... but the bathroom incident was the last straw.. and shouting at 'Jack' seemed to put him in his place.. never saw a 'ghost' but that was the closest thing... (now work in a pub which is allegedly haunted.. will let you know if I ever see her!!)
pmsl grasscarp, i am not Yvette Fielding lol

Only 3 of our shows have been aired as yet, though first series is complete and second series has started filming.

Ed, Im not sure that many ghosts do interact. I believe that many are something captured in time, like a film, destined to play over and over until the image fades.
You will find through history stories of ghosts who are always seen doing the same thing and in the same place and over time the claims of sightings seem to become few and far between. Is it that the image is going, or are we more capable of looking at things logically rather than accepting what we hear?

others do interact and seem to follow commands, want to show themselves and generally like the attention.
I lived in a really creepy house when I was very young and others have related various experiences such as someone sittling at the top of the stairs and knocking coming from the loft. I don't remember anything in particular but I have always had a fear of rocking chairs and can't have an empty chair in a room where I am sleeping - I imagine that I will wake up and see someone sitting there.

My husband had a physical experience with a ghost. His older brother died in a fire while staying with his grandparents when he was 21 and my husband was around 13. Prior to his death, if he was on an early shift from his work, his brother would hide in the hallway of their house and jump out on my husband and wrestle around with him when he came home from school. About a week or so after his brother died, my husband came home from school and was launched on and wrestled around by what he believed to be his brother - his mother came from the kitchen to see what the noise and commotion was to find my husband standing on his own. It never happened again.
flipping heck, annie, Ive got goosebumps the size of golf balls reading that!

Lumination, No one mentioned photobucket?

Hi Dotty, is the Weekend Ed not up to scratch then?

I'm more after the classic "ghost" rather than spirits in objects - although that is interesting too. Anyone been in a building which feels "inhabited" by a spirit?

My pub has a few spirits in it Ed ;-)
Try a pub. Loads of spirits there.
snap mike!
I put this in answer to a similar question some time back

On a trip to wales a few years ago we visited Raglan Castle...I went round it with my Mum as the friend we were with had already seen it... I started to feel a bit odd and all of a sudden my mum asked me why I was walking so oddly.... I replied 'I am trying not to step on the bones.. and suddenly started shaking and had to leave. I don't know if I'd tapped into a patch of negative energy but I suppose a fair number of people would have died defending the castle but I was ok when I got a few miles away.

I certainly wouldn't want to go back there

by the way it was a glorious bright summer day and it is not something that had ever happened to me before

I dont believe in ghosts, but I recon you got more chance of seeing one than getting a reply to a technical question form an AB Ed. lol
4get and i had flats next door to each other. both had some sort of ghost in there.

i feel that she was warned of danger by a ghost when a huge gas leak occured at the back of the buildings.

My flat was next to hers (this building was about 160 years old) and there was a panel in the wall between the flats where a door had once been in the large house. Anyway this panel was at end of hallway and whenever i walked into the hallway i would always stop to allow someone to walk past. I was always expecting to see them but never did, but i would never walk out til they passed by
lol yeah i re read and saw no one mentioned that, could have sworn i saw it said! but how would i get the photo up on here? no very technical btw lol
LOL Moonraker. Don't know what the Eds are taking these days but I'd love the prescription. I could do with a dose of surreality.
Hmm I know red - he has only ever told me about it once - he is a oretty down to earth guy, but he has never been able to explain away his experience - he said to me that whilst he never saw his face, it felt and smelt like his brother. His view is that it was because he didn't get to say goodbye. He was close to his older brother and they shared a room. The night he died when his dad came up to tell him, he was already awake and crying, but wasn't sure why. :o(.

Interestingly, last night when i was locking up the house, there was a stong smell of lynx or something in the study and I have no idea where it came from. My husband has allergies that mean we don't buy many things that have an odour - my shampoo is about as exciting as it gets and both he and the kids were in bed. It is approaching the annivesary of my brother's death, so I did wonder for a minute or two.......

Moonraker, have you read the FAQ? It is usually the best place to start: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Info/FAQs/

Lumination - visit here: http://tinypic.com/ Once you've entered the picture you'll be given a url like this: http://tinypic.com/r/246wa6v/7

Red, so current thinking is ghosts are trapped in a cycle. Could you break this cycle?

Also, another question: how can you detect a ghost/spirit?

Spare Ed
red, I had a similar experience with a ouija board some time ago. Not particularly scary, but just strange. I don't particularly want to describe it in detail, but I can say that something was definately happening beyond the consciousness of the people involved. You just have to trust me on that from my knowledge of the people, and the messages spelled out.

I'm not saying the spririts of dead people were moving the glass, just that there's something strange going on there that I haven't seen a convincing explanation for yet.

Haven't used one since. I thought at the time it was an interesting experience, but not one I particularly want to repeat.
