and I am considering getting dressed and going up the shop to buy a pack. Ive eaten plenty, drunk loads of coffee, read and re read everything about how its making my already atrocious set of lungs worse. i can;t use non smoking aids, they are just too strong for me, despite the equivalent of at least a pack a day habit. I've given up before for 3 years twice and 8 weeks at the beginning of the year. Im not pregnant or nursing a child this time and it not a bet like earlier in the year so .......I need some good motivational tips please?

Have a fag!
Lol only joking. Cold turkey sucks but by day 3 you really feel like you've done it. Just think, less than 24 hours before your system is FREE!!
Watch a film :)
Goodsy, stay on AB and post in every category, and don't think about the puffing away. Good luck!
27 hours for starters is brill. According to the health advice, your body will already be benefitting - the benefits to circulation, chest, etc., are really rapid after people stop smoking. Can you not think of that, and also the cost of the cigs, if you need an incentive? - think what else you could buy with the money!
Hello, how about putting the money that you would have spent,in a jar/container? You will be surprised how much you will save. From a non smoker.lol.

Good luck goodsoulette. ^ there isn't a jar big enough to put my cash equivalent in ;-)

Isn't saving a small fortune and living longer motivation enough? Good Luck!

Thanks guys. This is already a health benefit give up. I have a mystery cough from hell, had some horrendous bout of tracheitis which triggered awful asthma attacks so Im at that point already where its give up or die while Im still far too young. I've figured if I give up before I brave the chest xray it wont turn out so bad....... Leviathon i shall not smoke in case I get murdered is the best excuse so far.
How about 'Lung Cancer' my old dad had a lung removed because he was week. He did live (if thats what you call it) for another two years.
D'ya want to see your kids get married? then you know the answer,
Besides you must be saving at least £35 per week, put it away for your daughters wedding.

thats it though gingejbee, clearly its not. 3 years ive been clear before.... twice and all becasue I was pregnant and then nursing for 2 years following. When it's for someone elses benefit it seems to work.

I can empathise with that Goodsoulette, but I wish you well with your effort to stop
poor you fluff.....increase the smokes :)
Godsoulette - also consider that you will have to pay more in life insurance premiums in the future if you are still ticking that "Smoker" box.....
Good for you, I have now gone 11 months without one, Ok I have gained a bit of weight, but my breathing has improved, I do get short of breath and that was the frightener of smoking for me. Drink water to get that awful taste out of your mouth. Keep it up it's hard to get over the feeling but it only lasts five minutes You'll smell nicer and your clothes will too, Try to eat sensibly but don't think about dieting. No more standing outside in the cold for a fag. Change the way you found you wanted a cigarette if you can and where and when you used to smoke them.
I was a very heavy smoker but went cold turkey one day and have never smoked since - 10/12 years ago now - my biggest motivation was the desire to live longer! - next time you go out you will notice when you stand near anyone who smokes because they absolutely stink - it's horrible - you are then allowed to be really smug because you don't smell like an ash tray. Realising that a little pack of weeds is controlling your life was, for me, degrading - just wish I'd realised that earlier. It got so much easier the better I felt and I can't bear the smell of ciggies now. Do not get dressed and go to the shop, do not pass go, do not collect £200 and do not waste any more money on cigarettes. Drink lots of water too. Well done and good luck.
