Ok..... Not as good as the last one I know, but I just happened to have that card by accident. This isn't as much fun for me because I know where it is and what it is but I'll enjoy all your comments. I hope the link works 'cos I'm not too good at this...

Date 1905-1915
Parade representing British society
Where ?????
Reason ??????
from the moustaches (if that's what they are and not just shadows) I'd say prewar - also, I suspect, most of those males wouldn't have been around during or soon after the war. Hemline experts can probably give a closer guess. And vernacular architecture experts could probably place it, too.
I think it might be an Empire Day parade. Judging by the woman's outfit I'd say about 1915 - 1916 ish
blimey, 1919? ir looks like a comical fancy dress and people are depicting characters from history. is it an easter parade?
Looks as though the 'women' are men in drag.....is it some sort of anti-suffragette parade parade ?
I guess that would make it before 1914.

Those houses look quite Scottish to me, but I'm certainly no architect.
I'm also thinking Empre Day - is that some sort of Chinaman second right? It's a bit too fuzzy to be sure, but he could be representing Hong Kong.

But I still think too many able-bodied men to be wartime.
I keep looking at this and wonder why there are no motor cars at all, that's what makes it harder to date, those houses do look terribly smart and well kept and the little garden fronted terrace like that is very urban i suppose. Bet all those short railings on the walls were gone in the 1940s for the war effort.

Zacsmaster, it's definitely British!
I think the net curtains give it away zac!!!
Is it the first Notting Hill Carnival?
would the style of bicycle indicate a particular period ?
also, further into the picture and to the left of the cyclist, is that a police uniform ?
When are you going to put us out of our misery ?

Not for a while yet!
Two things interest me, but don't know if they'd be relevant in establishing where it was taken.

It's obviously a residential street but there is a metal framework in the bottom left hand corner that looks like it might belong outside a shop supporting an awning.
Again in contrast to the "finished" appearance of the houses, the construction to the bottom right looks massive and pretty rough, almost like an old fortification of some sort.

Any relevance?
Question Author
Dundurn. No it's not a fortification. But you are right about the metal supports for an awning.
Public convenience was my other guess! Someone else thought it might be a communal laundry. It's the single pent roof that looks out of place.
Are we all out of ideas? Do we give up gracefully and ask for the answer?

OK. The location is College Road in Bangor, Gwynedd (Caernarfonshire). The building on the right with the sloping roof is the VERY old and long closed Belle Vue garage with petrol pumps. This is attached to (out of the picture) the Belle Vue pub - still very much alive and kicking. On the back of the photograph is "Rag Day 1913". The awning belongs to Albin's shop now killed off by the supermarkets although it did hold out for a very long time as it opened late before the supermarkets stayed open late. I'll look out for another photo or card. Happy Easter everyone.
Thanks, Horseshoes.....hope you find some more, I like this game. :-))
