im just curious...whenever i read about world war 1 or 2, there is always the mention of propaganda...

is there any modern day properganda that anyone knows of? all i can think of are the increasing number of MOD and army adverts, obviously to try and get more people to join to go fighting.

could global warming be seen as a form of propaganda? especially the way its taught to children in schools?

Propaganda suggests telling just one side of a story, so strictly speaking any form of advertisement could be seen as propaganda. But I don't think an ad encouraging you to join the army is really propaganda - it's just an ad. Nor do I think that the teaching of evolution is propaganda just because it doesn't include teaching of biblical creation to 'balance' matters. Likewise teaching about climate change, as long as it's scientifically based, is education rather than propaganda. But it depends on how any individual defines the word. People are particularly likely to describe as 'propaganda' anything they disagree with.
I think we use the word "spin" instead now.
Weapons of Mass Destruction in 45 minutes would seem an obvious one.
It could be argued that each political party in the UK uses propaganda (or spin as has been said) to make themsleves look good.

They crow about their achievements, and forget to mention their failures.

If any politician is asked a question they will say anything to make their party look good and the other party look bad.

If you watch the TV later this week, after the local council elections, you see good examples of propagada.

If Labour lose say 200 seats they will say "all parties in power lose seats in a local election" or "if the tories were that good they would have won 400 seats".

The tories will say "this proves the country are sick of Gordon Brown" or "surely its time to call an election".
Global warming is more of a religion than propaganda or science as its proponants pick and choose which texts to proclaim and which to suppress
In WW2 we put out that we had a huge ferris wheell type contraption that would destroy fortifications to delude the Germans.
During the cold war the Americans put out that they had satellites in space that could read the news paper in your hands, when they did'nt and still don't. But the myth lives on.
Not sure about Global warming Danny, but if you watch the party political broadcasts when they are getting ready for an election, that is propaganda, but we have all got wise to it now, and no one takes much notice.
