Queen Vic

When did Disraeli make Queen Victoria the Viceroy of India? How did he have the power to do so...she being Queen and all? Was it an act of atonement to clear bad blood between them or simply a display of affection?

Sorry, you're a bit off the beam there. Queen Victoria was never Viceroy of India (a post equivalent to the Governor); but was declared Empress of India in 1877. As would be the case now, this had to be implemented through the Government (of which Disraeli was Prime Minister) and Parliament. Disraeli was very popular with the Queen; and his own attitude to her is perhaps partially clarified by his famous saying "Everyone likes flattery; and when you come to Royalty you should lay it on with a trowel".
