I've just caught it going through tower bridge and noticed that at the front of the queens boat were two small black dingys on either side, were these the sas?
If it was wouldn't the queen be better protected by a large boat on each side with surface to air missiles? What if a large boat came roaring out of the bushes full of terrorists? Why are we using missiles for the olympics but just a few tiny boats for our monarchy?

I don't think there are any bushes big enough to hide a large boat full of baddies in that area.
;o)
personally I do not get all this fuss for someone who is only doing their job, one she can resign from any time she aint happy with it.
Excuse me IDN!!! This is Our Queen we're talking about.

Baldric my point is someone could be in a building with an rpg or anything and it just doesn't look like it's well protected or that maybe the beauty of it, that it's so well protected it looks completely unprotected to foil any would be terrorists or monarchy haters.

Idonknow there would be the most biggest uproar if she did but what could they do, they couldn't physically force her to do anything if she said that's it i don't want to do it anymore
the SAS, Marines and Police were crawling over every structure in the past few days........there was supposed to be an anti-Monarchist demo - anybody see that?
I dont think they are going to publish the security set up somehow, we will have to assume all is being taken care of.
I would imagine there is far more security there than we can see, as for the missiles, isn't that more to do with US paranoia.
er hum.....she is not our queen, she may be your queen, but I do not remember being given a say in who our head of state should be. She can be the monarch for as long as she wants to be of course, but I resent any of my tax pounds being wasted in that direction.
Oh give me strength!
which country is IDN in?
Rohan56....you onbiously don't live in or around the area of the pageant....security has been immense in the last few days. Wish they could have done something about the rain in the latter part tho........frigging drenched!!!! Worth it though.

Idonno - you'd pay for a president tho I spose? This pageant cost the taxpayer nothing, The monarchy costs each taxpayer about £1.50 a year. Money well spent if you ask me considering the income it generates.
i am an english woman and therefore my opinion is just a relevant as any other's. I am interested in everyone else's opinions which I often take on board and review my own on this and many other subjects but so far I have not heard or seen anything that alters mine on this subject.
then ignore this republican killjoy, chrissa.
it's my £1.50 and I want it back!

and as far as paying for a president is concerned....at least in that scenario if I did not like how the job was being done I would have a say.
£1.50, that is good value, you pay more to vote on x factor and line simon cowells pocket
Good practice run for the Olympics perhaps? I would have thought that the security services have been more than stretched recently.....
The monarchy doesn't cost each taxpayer £1.50 a year

That's the direct cost from the Civil list - there are an awful lot of hidden extras

The true cost is much higher

Republic - who are obviously biased calculate about 5 times that at about £200 Million a year

I guess it all depends what you count

Fair enough IDN. Would you rather have a President who, like the US is elected because he has the biggest Election Budget to spend on TV coverage etc.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but I wonder why and when Anti-Monarchists began to have these opinions. Britain has always had a Monarchy. We are Not ruled by them and, as has been said on here before, the income they generate for the country, far outweighs the money they cost.
