Thats ment to be Ireland lol.
As the RNLI was formed prior to the formation of the Republic of Ireland/Irish Free State in 1922, the RNLI was requested to remain to support the new states lifeboat crews..http://www.rnli.org.uk/who_we_are/rnli

And continues in that role today, indeed is a registered charity both within the UK and the Republic.
Apparently there are 43 stations in Ireland both North and South under the auspices of the RNLI, don't know how iy works but it does.

Thanks for your replies, its interesting isnt it,i love the RNLI and i love the fact that it trancends a national boarder the way it does.
Somewhat similarly, the Irish Rugby Football Union predates the partition of Ireland and decided to continue administration of the sport for the entire island, leading to the Ireland national rugby union team being drawn from both Eire and NI.
Different but similar...... the Commissioners for Lights who administer lighthouses around the British Isles are divided into three - Northern Lights (Scotland and the IOM), Trinity House (England, Wales, Channel Is and Gibraltar) and Irish, covering the whole of Ireland. The Irish Lights are controlled from Dublin.
