they're supposed to come down on 12th night, but I don't know that there's any rule about putting them up. About October in high street shops...

many thanks
should go up at the start of advent i think which is December 1st.
According to what I've read somewhere its considered bad luck to put up decorations before Christmas eve and they should be taken down (thoroughly) 12 days after.
I dont think too many people bother to wait til Christmas eve these days though.
Are we still allowed Christmas decorations, the pc t0ssers haven't banned that yet?
They should go up 12 days before and down 12 days after.

However in this day and age it seems that noone seems to stick with what is tradition and people seem to have forgotten the real reason of christmas.
In Catholic countries decorations go up on 8/12 and come down on 6/01.
people say itz tradition to put xmas trees and decorations up 12 days b4 xmas and 12 days after
We decorate the christmas tree on christmas eve and take down decorations on the 6th of January.
Desiree - what is the significance of 8/12?
i say you just leave them up all year long and make things easy on your self come christmas time
