I see adverts on TV for this stuff.

Is there any reason to having caffeine on your scalp?

Research suggests that caffeine stimulates the growth of hair follicles. Summary here:

Thanks Chris.

Presumably they are not allowed to advertise it as promising such effect, or they would be shouting it out.
Perhaps they're also aware that if they tell men that caffeine appears to inhibit or reverse the effects of testosterone (which that research seems to suggest), some men might think that it'll make them less macho! ;-)
It was invented up here in Scotland donchaknow.

Funded by the Barnett formula. :-P
If word gets out that caffeine inhibits/reverses the effect of testosterone it won't do much for coffee sale, to men at least. Starbucks may have to change its name to StarDoes!!
I dunno. Some of us really manly types need 8 mugs a day to counteract how macho we are ;-)
I have used Caffeine shampoo for about 3 years now.
I was noticing thinning at my crown. Although it hasn't restored any hair, it seems to be slowing the rate of hair loss. Or perhaps its all in my mind and I am a gullible consumer?!
Think I might go and dunk my head in the percolator.
If I don't look like I'm from the planet of the apes by morning I'll be a tad depressed and go back to polishing my head.
I would like to have been there when someone said "I know, I'll wash my hair in coffee - hmm, that's a good idea ...".
the advert say its sold over 2 million bottles in germany, well given the population is around 81 million that's not a good reference
Given that the amount of caffeine in the neat shampoo is very small (caffeine is just above perfume in the ingredients list)...by the time the shampoo is applied to wet hair and lathered, I'd doubt that the concentration of caffeine would have any therapeutic effects at all.
Ivor that's exactly what I thought from the advert and seeing as Mariella (I think it's her voice) quoted the same figure last year it doesn't suggest sales are going up!
will dipping my goatee beard in my early morning cappuccino stimulate its growth?

Perhaps most of them are not bald?
Are the herrs less hairless?
Lol @ Prudie. Have just looked this shampoo up on Tesco website while I was ordering my groceries and for 250ml shampoo it's £8.99 and for 150ml conditioner it's £6.99 so that won't be going on my list. x

You don't get this if you just Google.

Thanks. I should have guessed someone else had asked this question.
I think I'll continue to take my caffeine orally.
