Wii microphone

I bought my nine year old two wii mics for her to sing along to the "now that what I call music dance and sing" game. Can anyone tell me are you supposed to hear yourself! There is no sound it is like she is just singing into a microphone and it acknowledges it on the screen but you can't hear her!! Is this right as this wasn't what I wanted to happen!!

rockband for the wii
