do you think he's given our chef's a right to be *******! i know chef's have always been hard work but watching him just makes my blood boil - i know thats the point of the show, but im on the recieving end of this behaviour day in day out and then i have to watch programmes like 'bbc 'are we being served' when they moan about stroppy service - watch him and the next time your waitress doesnt smile - think 'why'?.

LOL, now this is spooky!

Watching it as we speak- Mr Boo thinks he's brilliant and funny, I think he's an arrogant, obnoxious bully, the guy is vile to those poor chefs.
Hmmm difficult one,
But you have to think... he's probably not like that all the time, it's only just for viewing. Whereas I hear that he treats his staff brilliantly, even though I imagine him being a little tough.
I work in a kitchen, and what goes on is nothing like it in the real world. (unless you do something really bad!)
I was a chef for 5 years, and you can't really compare the two jobs. One person sweats buckets, is in work way before and way after everyone else, has trained and worked very hard to get to head chef, the other applied for a job to take orders and carry plates. That doesn't mean I agree with chefs being rude to waiting staff, it creates and awful working atmosphere, but when waiting staff mess up orders and the chef has to start again from scratch, wasting good food in the process, you can see why they get a bit narked!

i arrive the same time as the chef and am here long after he's gone - as soon as mains are out he's off, the pastry chef does the sweets but he doesn't start as early - not just waitresses who mess up - we have to take the complaints from the guest when the chef messes up!
Hiya bendigedig, he doesn't sound like a very professional chef then! He should be in well before service making sure everything is prepared so you don't get complaints off the customers! Go find a better restaurant to work in hun, or better still, leave the industry altogether, it's a thankless trade! :o)

ps, Ramsay is a kn0b!

lol - and you think a restaurant clears, cleans and lays itself? and cutlery and glasses polish themselve? - you sound like a typical chef - if its not in the kitchen its not important!! ive worked in the industry for 20 years and this isnt the only chef ive worked with - most are like this!
jiggy I'd have to disagree with your assessment of Ramsay for 2 reasons. Whenever I watch those shows where he troubleshoots other restaurants, he seems to be very switched on and speaks good sense. Granted, most of the time it just seems to be common sense and some of the places he visits seem utterly clueless and don't deserve to be rescued. But if his conduct on those shows is an indicator of what he's like as a boss, then he's clearly a good motivator. I must add though that in going by TV shows I always keep some scepticism in reserve.

But the other thing is, when he left one of his previous restaurants to join another one, most of the staff went with him because they wanted to remain working under him. That doesn't seem to square with his being a bully and a tyrant. However he may come across publicly, that vote of confidence by the staff speaks volumes.

I can't say I've got much time for his F-Word programme, Hell's Kitchen or the ads he's done. He'd have a little bit more of my respect without all that going on.
