We are having fry and chips later on for tea. I decided to cut them up earlier on to save a bit of time later. At the moment they are sitting in a bowl of cold water. But what is the best way to keep them for later. Should I keep them in water or perhaps salted water, or should I keep them in a bowl without water? What is the best way?

Yes a bowl of cold water. When you are ready to cook them strain all the water off & rub them in a clean tea-towel to dry them then cook as usual.
(I may be round for tea)

hi fobladob - i know this is no good to you today, but just for future reference:
I discovered recently, after finding tons of spuds at the back of my cupboard, that you can chip them, par-boil them and then freeze, ready to roast in the oven at any time.
I did it with chip shapes, cubes and roasties. They turned out very well. x

Yum, my mate does the par boiling thing with chips yeah, makes them sort of soft which is nice sometimes. All welcome Jem, as usual I've overdone the portions.
what is the 'fry' in your fry and chips, flobadob?
Another idea that works - partially fry chips, remove, drain. Finish-off in very hot fat when required - makes them really crisp.

4 sausage, 3 bacon, 2 fried egg, beans, maybe a couple of slices of bread and butter, chips and heart attack. In that order.
oh my days!
That sounds amazing!
