Poor old celery - the basis of all good soups. Love celery sandwiches with sea salt. Had a great moussaka on Monday - and aubergines look so fantastic
I like most vegtables. My favorite ones are roasted red peppers and corn on the cob with butter on it. I don't like beetroot and I hate celery.
Any EXCEPT ... aubergines ... !!

(gag, spit ...)
I'm with you JJ, don't like aubergines, don't like avocado (OK not a veg) - but spuds in any form are my faves any time, and brocolli.
Cook small beetroot, cool and finely dice. Place in a 4oz coffe jar. Make up half a raspberry jelly with white vinegar and pour over beetroot until jar is full. When set it makes a refreshing pickle to have with cold meats/salad and helps to keep the beetroot more manageable to avoid all those stains on tablecloths/clothes.
Oh dear,I think this is going to make sound very snobbish, but mine is asparagus!
It has a very short season but a wonderful one.
Totally dislike Jersey new potatoes - its the seaweed fertiliser that taints the spuds for me - £4.75 a kilo this week - rip off.
I love asparagus as well Mr V. Wrapped in Parma ham with a poached egg and some hollandaise sauce :-)
ttfn - we may fall out over this one! how can you not like jerseys?! each to their own, i'll have your portion with some butter and mint, lovely!

evening all
Strange thing about asparagus is it is so easy to grow. Once a bed is established it takes care of itself year in and year out with very little effort required. Mind you the root system is something else - trying to clear it is hard work - reminds me of those old metal springed bed bases. When the season is over youget all that lovely fern for floral use.
I'm on a diet at the moment and I'm not eating potatoes or bread <groan> rotten swiz
Hi jb - you are more than welcome. Waiting for the new home grown ones with baited breath. Trying out those bag grown ones for the first time. Keep earthing them up.
I remember marrow from childhood and hated it, yet love cucumber (basically the same plant). Also carrots; I am not over-fond of them cooked yet love them raw, especially grated.
love them, absolutely LOVE THEM! and also, they bring back childhood memories, eating them at my nanas, but totally agree, far too overpriced these days.

personally love aubergine - esp cooked as a parmigana, so not the healthy option!
also love cabbage, carrot and swede!
Hey mike - if you think that, I am not coming round for Sunday tea at 4.00 p.m. - Do you cut the crusts off your marrow sarnies?
Who cooks their carrots whole? They taste so much better...
Ummmm... in orange juice and a generous knob of butter... then toss in some more butter and chives.
I cut the crusts off all my sandwiches - it is the defining feature of good taste.
Oh I forgot about marrows, not sure I like them. I absolutely love beetroot, can;t understand why my sis hates it. Love it when it's still warm, before I pickle it.
Also very nice cooked with a small spoon of sugar and a knob of butter. Then use the juice to make gravy.
