So when you are in the air you are travelling up then down while at the same time moving in the same direction and at the same speed as the ground below you. Therefore you land in the same place!
It seems to affect tennis balls.
When I hit a tennis ball, while it is in the air the Earth moves the court, causing the ball to land on the wrong side of the line.
The effect is even worse with a lacrosse ball. The receiver is never in the place where the ball lands - once the Earth has moved her a few yards to the side.
